MBSR is the “Gold Standard” in mindfulness training; the most trusted, most researched, and most established mindfulness program in the world. This 8 week series is based directly on the Mindfulness training developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn and colleagues at the Center for Mindfulness at U Mass Medical School and Brown University. Four decades of research indicate that the practice of mindfulness skills can empower participants to reduce medical symptoms and psychological distress while learning to live more fully. This specific offering is directed toward Behavioral Health professionals to support their acquisition of foundational Mindfulness skills for the purpose of improved provider awareness of self as well as awareness of client; to provide skillful means of meeting stress through steady, compassionate presence toward self and others; and in turn become better prepared to introduce the value of embodied mindfulness skills to their client populations. The curriculum has recently been enhanced to increase trauma sensitivity and accessibility.
This exploration of Mindfulness requires a rigorous commitment to inquiry. Participants will engage in 10 sessions, including a one hour Orientation session (Wednesday, August 26, or Wednesday, September 9) to meet the instructor and other participants and to ensure the program is a good fit at this time; 8 weekly sessions (2.5 hours each Friday morning, 9:30 am-Noon), and one all day session (9:00 am – 4:00 pm on Saturday, October 17). The Foundations of Mindfulness will be explored in accordance with the curriculum of the Center for Mindfulness through the fundamental practices of the Body Scan, Sitting Meditation, Yoga (simple, gentle movement accessible for anyone), Walking Meditation. Mindful eating and interpersonal communications will also be included. Daily 45 minute home practice using materials provided by the instructor is an inherent part of the program.
A Sliding Fee Scale is available.
Please pay as much as you are able. Your generosity helps me expand access to participants who are in need. There are three price levels. $565 is the Standard MBSR program fee. $300 is the MBSR Scholarship level. $725 is the Standard MBSR and includes a contribution to help make scholarships available.
